MiniMax H3

The free alternative toSeedance,Hailuo AI,Kling AI

🔴 Advanced⏱️ ~60 min to installYou save €13/mo

MiniMax H3 is the open-weights version of the engine behind Hailuo: give it text, up to 9 images, video clips or even audio as references, and it generates a video with its native stereo soundtrack, dialogue included, in 11 languages. That is what sets it apart from everything else: sound is not added afterwards, it is generated together with the picture. Before dreaming, two realities. Its community licence forbids use in the European Union, the United Kingdom, South Korea and the United States: if you are in France, you may not run the weights without a special licence from MiniMax. And it is a 33-billion-parameter beast built for multiple GPUs: people run it on rented machines, not a creator's computer. For every other case, their API and the Hailuo app remain the entry door.

How to install it (even from zero)

First of all: check that you are ALLOWED. The licence excludes the European Union, the United Kingdom, South Korea and the United States. If you are in one of those zones, stop here, or use their Hailuo app. Otherwise, plan to rent GPU: the model is built for several cards.

  1. 1

Check the licence, then rent your machine

Use outside the EU, UK, Korea and the USA only, at your own risk and responsibility. Hardware-wise, aim for a multi-GPU instance at a rental provider (RunPod, Lambda, Vast): the official deployment recommends 4 GPUs.

  2. 2

Paste this prompt into Claude (Code or Desktop)

It deploys H3-Base on your rented machine and runs a first generation:

Review the GitHub repository and check whether it is safe to install given my machine and my infrastructure. Ask me as many questions as possible, using widgets, to clarify my request and be as precise as you can.
  3. 3

Shut the machine down when done

A multi-GPU instance bills by the hour, whether you generate or not. The budget-saving reflex: generate in sessions, then shut everything down.

What you actually do with it

Videos that speak, no post-production

A character saying your line, with voice, ambience and stereo generated in one go. No dubbing to sync, no foley to hunt: the scene comes out finished.

Your product or your face as reference

Up to 9 images, 3 clips and 3 audio tracks as input: the model keeps what you show it consistent across generations. That is the raw material of UGC videos.

The video building block of your own tools

Open weights means a building block you integrate: your content pipeline, your product, your service. What closed APIs will never let you do.

Project health, at a glance

Loucash’s take

6/10

Technically, it is probably the most impressive open video model of the moment: video AND sound generated together, dialogue in 11 languages, mixed references like no closed platform allows. I know MiniMax: their language model already runs in production at one of my clients, this company ships serious work. So why a 6? Because this library promises tools you can ACTUALLY use, and this one has two walls. The first is legal, and I will say it plainly: the licence forbids use in the European Union, the United Kingdom, South Korea and the United States. If you are in France, you are not allowed to run the weights. Install it only if you are outside those zones, at your own risk and responsibility. The second wall is hardware: 33 billion parameters, a deployment built for 4 GPUs, meaning machine rentals counted in tens of euros per session. And keep in mind two pieces of the full system, the preprocessor and the 2K mode, stay closed behind their API. If you tick every box, it is a gem replacing a Seedance or Hailuo subscription with raw cost. For everyone else, treat this page as intelligence: this is where video generation is heading, and it is open.

It’s for you if: You are outside the European Union, rent GPUs without flinching, and want video generation with native sound in open weights. Otherwise, read this page as intelligence.
